How to Install a Blade Servers

If your business is in cluster computing or web hosting, chances are you're using blade servers. Blade servers may not have as many parts as other servers do, but they are effective. One of the reasons why businesses like them is that they don't require a lot of physical space. Another benefit to using these servers is that they are hot-swappable, meaning you can replace parts without having to shut the whole system. Install a blade server by performing the following steps:

1. Verify that the chassis is tightly secured in the rack. Make sure you have the blade server's documentation on hand because you must refer to the diagrams.

2. Make sure you've installed any components that are required. These include hard drives, extra processors, or cards.

3. Pick up the blade server. Use both hands to hold it. On the front of the blade server should be an ejector lever. Open this lever.

4. Slide the blade server in a bay of the chassis. Push it as far as it can go.

5. Push the ejector lever. It should lock the blade server in the chassis.

6. Connect the correct power cables to the power supplies and power sources. Turn on the chassis.

7. Use the blade server's software to configure the system.

Tips & Warnings

Use a software tool to help you monitor your blade servers' electric use. Blade servers can consume a large amount of energy.
